Our last day 🙁
We woke again to a beautifully sunny LA and predicted 104 degrees (40C). We decided as we hadn't made it to Manhattan Beach yesterday that we would stop there for breakfast, and it was on the way to the airport. I was a bit concerned that we would look silly dressed to fly in black jeans, t-shirt, cardigan and boots – but not at all! It was amazing how many locals were wearing thick clothes in this heat. I guess if you are working then the dress code and air-con inside means that you need to. We were very impressed with Manhattan Beach – it's very stylish, easy to park (on meters inside the multi-story car parks) and there's a great choice of restaurants serving healthy food.
Taking the car back to Los Angeles airport really brought home that our trip was now over, and we were as impressed with Hertz at this end as we had been in Chicago (which is more than we could say for Virgin). Using my priority pass we sat in the VIP lounge, which was a good thing as the facilities at LAX are poor and limited; that surprised me for such a busy international airport. We very nearly got upgraded to upper class but it would have meant a 5 hour stopover, so we opted to stick with our flight.
Homeward bound…
