Top style tips for Bermuda
- Smart casual clothes in lightweight natural fabrics will work best – it is warm and sunny but not unbearably hot all year round.
- However the humidity can be very high so again light breathable fabrics are best, i.e. natural fabrics such as linen, silk, bamboo and cotton that will keep you cool and are easy to wash and dry.
- Daytime essentials include t-shirts, shorts, sarong and swimwear – as most people spend their time on the beach.
- Ensure you bring a versatile travel jacket. We love the SCOTTeVEST travel jacket because it has over 23 pockets, removable sleeves and RFID protection.
- Keep your swimwear for the beach, beach bars and hotel pools only though – and pop on a t-shirt and shorts or kaftan away from these areas.
- Wear plenty of sunscreen (we love the Riemann P20 range for 10 hour protection), sunglasses and a sunhat.
- There are a number of up-market restaurants where dress code is super smart – you may like to pack a smarter outfit if you plan to dine there.
- And snorkeling is popular too; the beautiful clear seas are home to lots of fish and coral. If you have your own gear that will fit in your luggage, it will save you paying the hire costs.
Shoes to pack for Bermuda
- Pack some pretty flat sandals for the beach; try the Lindsay Phillips Switch Flops range – using interchangeable shoe and flip-flop bases with snap-on decorations, you can change your look from day to evening in an instant whilst still packing light.
- Hiring a moped is a popular way to see the island, but be sure to wear closed-in shoes to protect your feet; if you stop suddenly or put your feet down whilst wearing flip-flops you risk cutting your toes. Look at Hotter shoes, they're very light and comfortable.
Clothing tips for women
- For evenings dress is smart casual; short summer sundresses are popular – and take a cardigan or wrap as just after a downpour it cools very quickly, though only temporarily.
- A few well-chosen pieces of costume jewelry will transform any outfit.
- And a pashmina is a versatile piece that will dress up any outfit, keep off a chill or protect you from the sun.
- The humidity can be very high and you may want to take a scarf or accessories to keep your hair under control!
Clothing tips for men
- If you're looking for versatile and stylish beachwear, try the Madda Fella range of shirts, shorts, polos and swimwear.
- For evenings dress is smart casual; long pants and short-sleeved shirts (no t-shirts). Tailored shorts are acceptable.
Pack for the weather
- In June, July, August, September and October it is warm at night too, so short sleeves are best and take something light to sleep in.
- The nights between December, January, February, March, April and May tend to be a little cooler, so a pashmina or light sweater is worth popping in your case for then.
- We love the Weather+ app – it gives an accurate 6 day forecast for day and night, which when you're planning from home is really helpful. You can keep all the places you've been to too – a nice way to remember your trip 🙂 Download for iPad/iPhone or Android
Regions of Bermuda
- Heavy tropical showers are common, so a small travel umbrella and light raincoat can be handy to carry with you.
Other things to pack
- A lightweight day sack or beach bag will come in handy to carry your sightseeing essentials.
- The tap water is mostly safe to drink but may be chlorinated and not to your taste. If you tend to buy bottled water, consider carrying a LifeStraw Filtration Water Bottle instead – fill up from any source and get clean, safe drinking water without wasting plastic bottles. The locals take water conservation very seriously as there are limited fresh supplies on the island; tourists tend to use twice as much, so be sensitive and try not to waste any.
- To use electrical gadgets you may need a travel adapter plug, and also a step up voltage converter if your devices are not designed for local voltage (120V).
- If you're aiming to travel with just carry-on baggage, try the CabinMax soft-sided rucksack – it's light, roomy and has plenty of pockets to keep your stuff organized.
- Avoid paying unexpected baggage fees – use an accurate luggage scale to ensure you keep within the weight allowance. Don't forget to leave room for souvenirs on the way home! Look for brightly painted ceramics, and rum cake is popular too. The craft market at the Dockyard is a good place to browse.
